Growing up around gold
I grew up in Surat, surrounded by the jewelry trade. In this city, diamonds and gold are not rare sights. They pass through thousands of hands every single day, getting cut, set, weighed, and sold. As a kid I did not think much of it. It was just what the people around me did for a living.
Somewhere along the way, it got into me. I would notice the small things. The way a stone caught the light, why one ring felt right on the hand and another did not, how a good finish changes everything. That quiet interest is really where ArnaJewels began.
The pieces I wanted to make
When I started designing, I kept thinking about the women in my own family. My mother has beautiful jewelry she has worn maybe four times, because it is meant for weddings and stays in the locker the rest of the year. I did not want to make that.
I wanted to make things you actually reach for. A ring you forget you are even wearing. Earrings that go with jeans and with a saree. Pieces that become part of your day instead of an occasion. Jewelry an Indian woman can wear on an ordinary morning and still treasure years later.
How a collection comes together
Every collection starts with a sketch and a lot of second-guessing. I look at what women are actually wearing, not just what photographs well. Then we make a few samples, wear them around for a while, and change whatever does not feel right.
Only after that does a design go into production, and even then we make it in small batches. If something is not quite right, I would rather stop making it than push it out the door. It is slower, but I sleep better this way.
The stones and the making
Being in Surat helps here more than I can explain. I can see the stones before they go into a setting, check the colour and the cut, and send back anything that is not up to the mark. The gold and rose gold are worked by artisans I know by name and trust.
Nothing leaves without being looked over by hand. That care is the part you cannot see in a photo, but I promise it is there in every clasp and every setting.
